Week 13 - In Class Assessment

Superman - Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow

1. What is your reaction to the text you just read?
Having never read or seen any Superman comics or movies, some of what I read was a little confusing. Mostly just the characters and some references. However after reading this comic I was actually surprised to find myself interested in the text. I've never been much of a Superman kind of person, always preferring Marvel superheroes. And out of DC characters I would always choose Batman. I really enjoyed seeing Batman and Robin at the end of this story. I can't lie, some parts of this story I did find myself getting a tad bit bored with the dialogue, probably because some of it was lost to me. Overall it was an enjoyable read and I very much liked the ending. Well, if the ending ended how I think it ended, I really liked it. Although I'm not quite sure.

2. What connections did you make with the story? Discuss the elements of the story with which you were able connect?
I feel as if I wasn't quite able to connect with this story, mostly because I have never been introduced to anything along the lines of Superman. The only connection I was able to make from this is on page one. I remember watching the recent film Suicide Squad and seeing this exact statue memorial at the beginning. That was the first time I had actually been aware of the fact that Superman had died. I had actually attempted to watch Batman VS Superman, however, I got incredibly bored halfway through and had to stop. I've heard that it was one of the worst DC films.

3. What changes would you make to adapt the story into another medium? What medium would you use? What changes would you make?
By adapting the story I would cut out some of the pointless dialogue and replace it with dialogue that would actually contribute more to telling the story in a way that would give more information about the story line to viewers that aren't quite sure of whats happening. It would be more of its own story that something taken out of a series. I would use the medium of film and turn this into a screenplay.
